Blindness has been recognized as an important public health problem in India. Cataract has been documented to be the most significant cause of bilateral blindness in India where vision < 20/200 in the better eye on presentation is defined as blindness. In India cataract has been reported to be responsible for 50-80% of the bilaterally blind in the country .The problem of avoidable blindness rapidly escalating remained a major cause of concern in the Indian healthcare scenario. In a developing country the government alone cannot meet the health needs of all owing to a number of challenges like growing population, inadequate infrastructure, low per capita income, aging population, diseases in epidemic proportions and illiteracy. Realizing this, Dr. THOMAS wished to establish an alternate health care model that could supplement the efforts of the government and also be self-supporting. Following his goal in 2011, he established the Jaibo Eye Hospitals. Jaibo Eye Hospital Gwalior has full-fledged super-specialty clinics including, General Ophthalmology, medical Retina, Cornea and Refractive surgery, Glaucoma, IOL, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Neuro-ophthalmology, Uvea and Oculoplastic with supportive and diagnostic services.
